DIY: Sequin Collar

I'm finally getting around to sharing the DIY project I promised last week. A few months ago I found a sequin mini skirt at Forever 21 and was planning to make it into a clutch. However, once I saw this collar, I decided a collar would be more fun to make since detached collars are having a huge moment right now. Have you noticed? Plus, it would be a great item to dress up my everyday t-shirts.

Read the how-to after the jump.

The pattern is from here, although I had to subtract a couple of inches from the top to make the collar fit, so be sure to measure around your neck to get the best fit. Any sequin fabric should work, I used a sequin mini skirt (the lining of the skirt was used for the back of the collar).
1. Lay out the pattern on fabric and cut out 2 pieces from the sequin fabric for the front and 2 pieces from the lining fabric for the back.

2. Put the sequin pieces together (right sides facing) and sew along top edge (see pic) to join the pieces together. Repeat with the 2 lining pieces.
3. Pin the sequin piece and the lining piece together (right sides facing) and sew along the outer edge leaving a 2 inch opening to turn it (see pic).
4. Turn the collar right side out through the 2 inch opening you left on the previous step.

5. Hand sew the opening closed with the needle and thread.

6. Sew on the hook and eye.
