Fall trend: high waisted skinny jeans

image
I love a good pair of skinny jeans in a dark wash, but lately I've been seeing a lot of high waisted ones. The other day my friend Amanda had on the cutest pair that she wore with a tucked-in tee and skinny belt.

What do you think, will you try them?

Design details: painted front door

image
Last year The Huffington Post did an article about The 6 Absolute Best Paint Colors for Your Front Door (not sure about the lime green). A painted front door seems bold, but I like that it's a bit fun too. Plus, it's always a nice treat as a passerby to see a brightly painted front door. Don't you think? If I were to paint my front door, I often wonder what color I would paint it? I'm sure it would probably be a shade of blue although deep down I may try something brighter like a yellow or orangey red.

What do you think, would you paint your front door? What color would you paint it?

Summer trend: embroidered tops

top left / top right / bottom left / bottom right
In the summer I go for pieces that are lightweight and airy especially when it gets hot! Lucky for us, it hasn't been too hot this summer (70s, just the way I like it:) I love these pretty embroidered tops and they would perfect with jeans or shorts and flat sandals this summer. Plus, today you can get all tops from Piperlime 30% off with the code TOPS30.

A Sale at Anthropologie

Anthropologie is having a big summer sale and being that I used to work there years ago I have a soft spot for all things from Anthropologie. I especially love their linen pants and how perfect are those metallic sandals? Here are a few of my favorites from the sale.

Style: Kimonos

image
What are you wearing this summer? Lately I've been seeing kimonos everywhere, so many that online stores even have a kimono section on their sites. They seem great for summer because they are super lightweight and can easily be thrown over a t-shirt and jeans look.

What are your thoughts? Do you like them? Find one herehere, here, or here, or if you're brave you can even try making your own.

Quilted Sweatshirt: 2 ways

Lately I've been into sweatshirts. They are so comfy and easy to wear, and I like that they can be dressed up or worn with jeans and sneakers. I love this short sleeve version with the quilted sleeves. Wouldn't it be great this summer worn with shorts or white jeans? Here are a couple of other ways to wear it.

A Spring Dress: 4 Ways

With it starting to feel like spring (YAY!), I'm excited to start wearing more skirts and dresses. As many of you know, I love to mix and match patterns and Boden makes it easy to do with their bold colors and variety of patterns. I'm a huge fan of the dresses at Boden for their classic styles and long lengths, which is why I've partnered with them to show you 4 different ways to wear the Seville Dress. This dress is stretchy and comfortable, yet still flattering (not easy to find) and I plan to live in it this summer! Plus, the pattern is so versatile and goes with almost any other color. Here are a few different ways to wear it...

Outfit 1: This dress is perfect on it's own. To keep it casual, throw it on with a pair of simple sandals, a cross body bag, and a straw hat.

Summer bags

With summer approaching, I'm in need of a good bag I can use for the pool or park, but can also double as a purse (or diaper bag). Lately, I've been super impressed with the bags on Sole Society. I've shopped for shoes in the past on their site, but never thought to look at bags until recently. Here are a few of my favorites. They also have pretty jewelry!

For spring: the panama hat

image
I wear hats frequently. I think it's because I know I can go one more day without washing my hair. While I tend to be most comfortable in baseball caps, (they're easy and go with everything) lately I've been trying new styles and particularly am liking the Panama hat this spring. It would be great for weekends or for a trip to the beach!

Sandals for summer

Every year I like to invest in a brown pair of flat sandals. They go with everything from dresses and skirts to cropped pants and shorts. This year I picked up these ones from Gap because I liked the metallic detail, plus, they were less than $40! Here are a few of my other favorite picks.

Lauren Moffatt Spring Collection

This is not the first time I've posted about Lauren Moffatt. She is one of my favorite fashion designers and her clothes are too pretty not to share. The patterns and silhouettes are always spot-on and she knows how to mix and match. I love the way she styled this collection. Here are a few looks from the S/S 2014 collection (notice the skirt and dress trend. Hurry up summer!!)

Spring Combos: drapey pants and flat sandals

drapey pants / sandals: left . center . right
What are you planning to wear this spring and summer? Last week I shared some of my Spring Essentials. We still have lots of snow here and it's been terribly cold, but I've got my eye on flat sandals for spring. There are many good choices this year, so many that it was hard to pick just a few different pairs. I love the idea of mixing them with some drapey pants for something that's comfortable but still pulled together.

Style do or don't: slip-on sneakers

image
I recently spotted one of my friends with a pair of leopard slip-on sneakers. Slip-on sneakers seem to be having a big moment for spring. At first I wasn't sure I liked them (I do, however, love them for my boys!). Although, after seeing them styled with jeans, a loose fit tee and a leather jacket, they are starting to grow on me. And I like that they look comfy and are easy to throw on. I'm curious to know what you think. Any thoughts? Would you wear them?

Spring Essentials

supersoft t shirtsnap sandals / bright tote bagstud earrings / soft floral topstripe knit dress
We are basically snowed in today due to a huge blizzard that hit last night so I thought it would be appropriate to share some of the things I've got my eye on for spring, that is if the snow ever melts and spring decides to show up here. I fear it might be a while.

Lately, I'm into simple and easy things to throw on and pieces that go with everything. I also started a Spring/Summer 2014 Pinterest board here if you'd like to see that I'll be adding to over the next few months.

What are you planning to wear this spring?

Spring trend: crisp white

Ever since Emerson Fry released some sneak peeks of their new Spring 2014 collection, I haven't been able to get over crisp white tops and dresses for spring. They look incredibly fresh and chic especially when paired with a hint of black. Now if only spring would come fast so we can get our minds off of this brutally cold winter.

Over thinking your look

image
Do you have a tendency to over think your look? Most days I wear a t-shirt and jeans and a bit of makeup, but sometimes I have a tendency to over think my look and I try to get more creative. However, when I do, it usually ends up being a disaster of a look. Lately, I've been pinning simple looks so when I saw this image, I was immediately reminded that sometimes the most simple basics: blazer, t-shirt, black pants, and sneakers make up the cutest (and coolest) looks.

If you feel your look is a little too basic try adding a bolder lip, it's amazing what a bright lip can do for a simple look.

What do you think, do you ever over think what you're going to wear?

5 trends to borrow from the boys

image from Madewell
So you know I already have a thing for plaid, and the sporty trend, and baseball caps and pretty much all things tomboy. I've been wearing a ridiculous amount of these items over the past several months. A baseball cap has been especially useful on those days I don't have time to wash my hair:) And I'd be wearing my oxfords a whole lot more if it weren't so cold here (-40 with windchill this past week). There's something that makes you look instantly cool and casual when you add a tomboy piece to your look.

Here are a few of my favorites  to borrow from your guy.

Shopstyle has been my go-to shopping site for the past couple of years. Whenever I'm looking for a specific item of clothing, such as a dress for a party or a new pair of brown boots, I search on Shopstyle. I love it because you can search by style, price, color, and size, making it really easy to locate exactly what you want. So when Shopstyle contacted me, I was happy to collaborate with them on this project.

Since moving to Minnesota a couple of years ago, I've started accumulating a lot of sweaters, scarves and boots. In the winter I like to wear a lot of neutral colored pieces with different textures. I put together this board with some of my favorite winter items to create that warm, cozy and textured look.

And here are a few of my favorite items to help you get that cozy winter look...
